Frequently Asked Questions
About Pelvic Floor Therapy & Our Practice
-
Pelvic floor physical therapy is specialized care for the muscles, nerves, organs, and fascia of the pelvis. It treats conditions like pelvic pain, incontinence, prolapse, painful sex, and bowel/bladder dysfunction through hands-on manual therapy, exercises, and education.
At Portland Pelvic Therapy, we go deeper—combining conventional pelvic PT with visceral manipulation, neural decompression, trauma release work, and when needed, soul-level healing.
-
Pelvic floor PTs have advanced training in treating pelvic conditions. We work with internal pelvic floor muscles (with your consent), organs, nerves, and the complex systems that conventional PT doesn't address.
Additionally, my approach integrates trauma-informed care and honors the sacred feminine—this isn't mechanical, cookbook care.

Your initial evaluation (90 minutes) includes:
- Review of detailed health history paperwork (completed beforehand)
- Conversation about your symptoms, goals, and what brought you in
- Physical assessment (external first, internal only with your consent)
- Treatment planning and beginning of hands-on therapy
- Education and self-care guidance
Everything happens at your pace, with your full consent.
-
Every body is different. Some conditions improve in 4-6 sessions. Chronic, complex conditions may need 10-15 sessions or more.
After your initial evaluation, I'll give you a realistic sense of what to expect.
-
I'm an out-of-network provider. I provide superbills that you submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
Many patients receive 60-80% reimbursement, but coverage varies by plan.
Why I don't take insurance directly: Insurance models require seeing 8-12 patients per day in 30-45 minute sessions. The depth of healing work I do cannot be rushed. You deserve 75-90 minutes of focused, present care.
-
Yes! Physical therapy sessions qualify for HSA/FSA payment.
Akashic record sessions may or may not qualify depending on your plan (they are not coded as medical treatment).
-
Possibly. My approach goes beyond standard pelvic floor therapy to include:
- Visceral (organ) manipulation
- Neural decompression for trapped nerves
- Deep fascial release
- Trauma-informed somatic work
- Soul-level healing when needed
If your previous PT focused only on exercises or basic muscle work, this will be very different.
-
Yes. Endometriosis and adhesions are where I shine. My hands speak that language well.
I combine pelvic floor therapy with visceral manipulation to address the organ restrictions, adhesions, and nervous system sensitization that endo creates.
-
Yes. Whether it's vaginismus, dyspareunia, or trauma-related sexual pain, we can help.
Treatment combines pelvic floor release, nervous system regulation, and trauma work to help your body feel safe with intimacy again.
-
I primarily work with women, but I also treat: - LGBTQIA+ persons (you are deeply welcome) - Trans and gender non-conforming patients - Select male clients (please email first to ensure good fit)
